<x-charset iso-8859-1> I was wondering why they were so dim. > > I have to wonder how they worked at all before...? I really don't know. I am wiring the car according to the wiring diagram, as far as I know. The diagram I am using is basically the 12V one in Haynes, as I have never seen two the same, and had to decide on one. That black wire doesn't even appear there, as far as I can tell. The wiring diagram situation is very confusing. Two diagrams supposedly for the same car in the same year are quite different in the details. The Type 34 specific diagrams are completely useless, as they seem to be for a '67 model. I do have one of the Bentley's with the colour diagrams, and again, it is somewhat different to the one in Haynes. My car will probably end up a bit of a hybrid, with a few of my own touches ;~) The dash warning lights did work, albeit dimly. They also showed that my previous voltage regulator was no good, as the gen light stayed on all the time. This stopped when I got the new regulator. Since I connected that wire, the function is the same, simply the lights are brighter. I actually did quite a bit of electrical work yesterday: I fixed the grounding on the fuel gauge, which no longer flutters around, and installed the clock, which works great. BTW, temporarily, until everything is in place, I am ignoring the grounding wiring diagram and connecting the ground wires to a screw under the dash. Is there any reason I shouldn't so this? It seems to work fine. Daniel Baum ------------------------------------------------------------------- List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list or mailto:help@vwtype3.org </x-charset>
