Yes... actually Clyde said 35deg,, but until I measured the pully I was just getting things approximate from the Curve in the Bentley. Ran worse with less advance... richer idle. > > 2) my notch, today in 85F weather ran very cool (180F) oil temps. it > has 8.7:1 CR and is on pump gas. this is on mahle pistons and > cylinders. i have been told for years that you can't do that on the > street! even the semi-local VW shop says that thing can't run oil temps > that cool, and my gauge has been claibrated too. now, if i ran this > motor at 7.0:1 CR i would get about 15% less horsepower and not any > benefit to my cooling system. I had a motor that was in the low 8's once because the heads had been cut during reconditioning. It would detonate unless I ran 92 oct and kept the timing around 5 deg lower than reccomendation. It would run too hot... lowering the timing more would kill the gas mileage, What more could I have done?? I think Brians sucess is based on the "Whole picture"... including the cam and other aspects of the setup... someone mentioned this and I think that getting everything chosen properly is the key to sucess. Unless your an expert, and very knowlegeable, your at the mercy of the other experts... Which do you choose?? I chose Berg... maybe not the best but certainly one of the better ones.
