If the body in that area is perfect then it will all hold together as
long as the drive is smooth. But a jerky ride, sudden acceleration
or deceleration (hard unanticipated stop), or lots of climbing and
decents will put a lot of force on this weak area.
The only thing holding the bumper to the rest of the car are a bunch
of spot welds in series with a couple of small bolts.
I think you were planning to cross the Rockies this way. I would't
do it. Do you really want to take a major chance on ruining the car
and killing some other family in an oncoming car? A million dollars
worth of liability insurance would not be enough, expecially after
you have had all these warnings from the people on the list.
I wouldn't think the cost of a 2 wheel dolly would add that much to
what the truck will cost you, or am I mixing up 2 different people
now?
