[T3] Oil

This weekend I plan on doing a oil change. I have a
new engine with maybe 5,000 miles on it, this is one
of the new Mexican (or where ever they are made)
engines, with dual carbs on it. Since it is a new
engine I would like to protect it as much as possible
by using synthetic oil. Regular oil has been used in
the engine since new. I am aware of the cost of
synthetic oil, is that the only down side to this
conversion? If I choose to use synthetic what weight
should I use? Should I do a straight switch, or should
this be a gradual process. Thanks for the help
