Re: [T3] mysterious 3rd gear problem

<x-flowed>>pinhole in the line that runs along the side of the tunnel... my carpet &
floorpan are now soaked with fluid... I'll be replacing this today.
Question: Should this problem make me distrust the whole system?

My line of thinking would be what cause the pinhole? Likely rust weakened the wall of the tube, is the rust on the inside or outside? I would check all the rest of the cylinders, unless you know for certain that they were rebuilt/new recently.

Then, my wife's square develops a mysterious symptom: No power in 3rd gear.
'69 AT, converted to stock-like carb setup. Revs fine & smooth when parked.
When in gear, accelerates wonderfully thru 1st & 2nd - then gets to 3rd, and
just sorta dies. Drives rough, like it's running on 3 or less cylinders.

I would say that if its accelerating fine in first and second, then its not likely that the engine all of a sudden develops a problem in 3rd? Check and see if its running on 3 cylinders. Get it running, then while its sitting there idleing, pull one plug wire off at a time. Obviously each time you remove a wire the engine RPM should drop, then when you replace it it should pick back up. If you have one plug wire that does nothing to the engine when you remove it, then that cylinder is not firing (properly).

Cant say anything about the AT, I dont know anything about it, I am sure there are plenty of others that can though.
