There are 2 plastic elbows in the top of the MC. The front one is more of a 
right angle than the rear one, to clear the steering gear. I don't think the early 
cars would be any different here, so I suspect that your elbows are switched 
around.

It won't work to turn the MC over. The outlet pipes tap off the top of the 
chambers so air can get out. If you turn it over it will never bleed.

If you put your tube down into the fluid and pump quickly there will always be 
some fluid return, but it will be minor. I suspect what you are seeing is 
normal and not a problem. It is NOT a sign of a bad MC.

They are easy to rebuild once you have the right hone and know what to do. 
Kits can be purchased at your FLAPS or at ebay. I normally rebuild them for 
a fee, but right now I'm too busy trying to get other things done to get ready 
for Parma.
