<x-charset iso-8859-1>It's possible to check if the vac advance is doing "something" by holding the engine at 2-2500rpm using a piece of wire to hold the linkage. You can then remove and refit the vac hose to see if the advance moves using the timing light. This may not work on all models, but it's what helped me find the problem with the '68 vac advance only distributor. The dizzy was okay, but there was no vacuum from the carb. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jim Adney" <jadney@vwtype3.org> > On 25 Jan 2002, at 8:22, Mark Seaton wrote: > > > Jim wrote: > > > > Have you verified that both the vacuum and mechanical advance > > > mechanisms in the distributor are working? > > > Well the engine definitely advances when I'm checking the timing with a > > strobe and rev it.
