Sounds like they just weren't adjusted right. Or were they sticky 
somehow, so that they were actually adjusted but just wouldn't 
close/contact when they had the opportunity?

Huh, reversed?? It shouldn't matter. You're talking about the big 
high voltage wire from the coil to the dist cap, right?
