I know that reusing the old worn cam is the "wrong" thing to do, but I have been doing it for 25 years with no problems yet. Note that I only recommend this with an OEM stock cam. Perhaps I should add that all my engines have full flow oil filters, so this may have something to do with reduced cam wear. I often take a cam with 100,000 miles on it or so, and put it back in an engine that will go another 100,000 miles. I look at them hard before I do this, but they haven't let me down yet. Is there anyone on our list here who has actually had a cam go flat on them? If so, what kind of cam was it? VW or aftermarket, stock or performance, how old? BTW, I agree on the lifters. There are really BAD lifters out there, including some particularly bad examples made in Germany, so you have to be pretty careful about what you buy, or buy from someone you KNOW you can trust. - Jim Adney jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, WI 53711-3054 USA ------------------------------------------------------------------- List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list or mailto:help@vwtype3.org
