If the dist is working right, you should be able to turn the rotor CW about 30 deg and then it should snap all the way back on its own when you release it. There is always a bit of play in the drive which is no problem as long as the dist is always fully engaged in the drive, but you might want to verify that you have your dist ALL the way into the engine. If your dist is sticking (this is a common problem) you can add 2-3 drops of oil to the felt plug in the top of the dist shaft. If this doesn't cure it, I can fix it in the process of rebuilding the dist.
