There are a couple of things you should understand before you go any 
farther. There was NO factory A/C in type 3s. It was all dealer installed, and 
it was designed in this country with no help from VWAG. The additional heat 
load on the engine made engines in these cars require rebuilds much more 
often than standard engines. The holes that are required in the body also 
accelerate rusting out of the body.

While A/C may seem like a really "cool" accessory, I would NEVER add it to 
a car of mine. The downside is just too overwhelming.
