Even if your generator isn't working at all, the car will drive for many miles on a charged battery as long as you don't use the headlights, wipers, or radio. That lower brush can be reached, but just barely, and I think you have to do it pretty much by feel. If this is just to get to your friend's house, I'd ignore it. Any tips or hints? DON'T sandpaper it, an solvent is probably not necessary. Usually, all they need is new brushes. BTW, the brushes are fine as long as any amount of brush is still sticking out the top of the brush holder.
