If they listened right after you turned the key from OFF to ON and didn't hear any buzz between the 2 clicks, then the fuel pump is not running and the car won't start. This should be fairly easy to check out. Do you have a voltmeter? You should be able to measure voltage between ground and various points on the way to the pump. The power flows from the fuse box to the relay (on the firewall up and left from the steering column) to the pump. Measure it at each junction and where it disappears that's where your bottleneck is. The relay should only be closed (passing current) between the clicks or any time that the engine is turning over (either by the starter or under its own power.) It is possible that the problem is in the pump itself, but don't assume that. The pump is usually NOT the problem. > >Then have them go to the back and listen > >to the engine while you press the throttle > >slowly down. This is odd, but if they are there, it is probably only a minor problem. Don't worry about this now. -- ******************************* Jim Adney, jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, Wisconsin, USA ******************************* ------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe, E-mail to: <type3-off@vwtype3.org> For more help, see http://vwtype3.org/list/
