I did find that I needed to adjust the valves quite frequently for the first 1500 miles, but now they stay in adjustment fine. One thing to remember, the cylinders on these engines are parallel to the ground. All the stuff that has settled over the years will be mainly on the bottom of the cylinder, Along with the mystery oil. On a regular engine the oil will do a better job of getting all around the cylinder wall. Remove either your injector wires or plug wires one at a time to make sure they are all firing, and take it for a little drive to see what else you may need to do.I bet you'll be ok on the smoke, it just may take a little while for it to stop completely.
