More than a couple minutes then eh? Was it a LOAD of white smoke at
intial start? I put about a PINT! Of marvel in the total of 4 cyls, it
might take some time.....I shoulda let her get hot, but it was getting
really dark. Todays the day, going to get her up to operating temp.

First attmept at saving an old engine, rather than slapping a new one in
(only cause this is my first chance with a VW!)

I think compression is good here too, just impatentient out of
ignorance/lack of experience with this scenario.
BTW< the smoke didn't have a strong odor at all.
