Other states allow a decorative plate to be placed on the > front of the vehicle. I remember being very surprised on my one visit to the US that our hire car only had one number plate. Florida has this system (or at least it did then) and I didn't notice it until we reached our motel and I had to fill in the license plate number in the registration form - once I realised what they meant by "tag number", that is. Anyway, I went to the car and couldn't find the number, as, IIRC, it had a blank plate with a map on it in front. I remember someone in England told me he almost got fined in Florida for reversing into a parking space. Apparently you are supposed to park with the number plate showing. Later on we hired another car in California and that, I think, had two plates. Even more off topic, Israel is the only country I know where license plates have only numbers and no letters. Anyone know any others? Daniel Baum ------------------------------------------------------------------- Search old messages on the Web! Visit http://www.vwtype3.org/list/ </x-charset>
