<x-charset iso-8859-1>I can confirm Jim is correct on the plate issue. Living on the USA/Canada border gave me the opportunity to cross frequently and the Canadians and other North American states (Mexico, Honduras, etc.) use the same plate size standard for registration plates. What does vary is the use of a single rear plate, or front and rear plates. Most states near the national borders use a two plate system, enforced with fines around $100 for not displaying a front plate. Other states allow a decorative plate to be placed on the front of the vehicle. North Carolina is a one-plate state, and I believe Canada is all one-plate. In places where a one-plate law exists, many people choose to affix a european or foreign license plate to their vehicle. As for Jim's Hawaii discovery, the newest Hawaii plates I've seen have a rainbow in the center of the plate. The coolest plates I've seen are from Canada's Northwest Territory's which were made in the shape of a bear on all four feet within the external dimensions of a North American standard plate.
