hey all. slightly off-topic, but I figure you're the people who can help. a good friend has just bought a new VW ('73 type 1)... the motor's obviously been worked over (jeez, but it's fast!), and we're trying to identify exactly what's been done to it. The engine compartment's tricked out, very crafstmanly, work appears to have been done by someone with some know-how. Unfortunately, that was 2 or 3 owners ago, and current seller didn't know his arse from his elbow. SO, 1st - the carbs are gigantic. 2-barrell. Air cleaners say Dellorto - but can we be certain the carbs are Dell? And how to identify which model? Is there an accepted method for measuring determining stroke/bore, cam, valves, etc.... without taking the whole thing apart? Tranny also feels un-stock - it'll do 65 in 3rd, at about 3000 RPM. Is there someplace to look for identifying marks, ie Berg, freeway flier, etc? thanks. --timmy '72 square '69 square and now the proud uncle of a quicker-than-normal '73 bug ------------------------------------------------------------------- Unsubscribe? mailto:type3-request@vwtype3.org, Subject: unsubscribe
