RE: [T3] POR 15 Question, IMPORTANT

*stops her spinning head*
That would have really sucked considering I spent 3 hours wire brushing and
wheel grinding off all the surface rust.
Thanks for the info Brian, I'm really glad you experienced guys are out
there!

Correct and not correct.
POR-15 will adhere to fresh metal when using the Metal Ready which
etches and leaves a zinc-phosphate coating plus gets rid of any
petroleum contamination that may be there. POR-15 will not adhere
when petroleum contamination exist. Therefore, when prepping an area
for POR-15, DO NOT use laquer thinner, acetone, etc...DO NOT use
anything with a petroleum base. The Marine Clean works very well.
I spent a weekend (couple weeks ago) with a POR-15 distributor at a
swap meet. What an education! Talking to the customers using the
product was enough to sell me. I went home and used the POR-20 (High
temp silver for exhaust) on my header (just brushed it on after
cleaning with Marine Clean) and am amazed how nice it came out. It
does not have the thermal properties of the ceramic coatings, but it
sure is durable and looks very nice.
I now keep a bottle of Marine Clean mixed up for those cleaning
chores. I even use it for wheel cleaner.
BTW, I learned that the POR-15 cures with moisture. Therefore, if it
is cold or damp, it will cure quickly. But you don't want it to cure
before it has "self-leveled".

Just my type3 sense.
