I've never seen one, but I understand that there was an accessory for early cars that would mount between the end of the speedo cable and the speedometer that would turn on the backup lights if the cable rotation reversed. This MIGHT be what you have, but the neutral safety switch should have the backup light switch built into it. There are very few of these early 68 ATs around, though, so there might be some different things about them, plus this might be an Austrailian type 3 with its own unique features.
