It's a great big plug with lots and lots of connecting wires.  There is a 
pretty good procedure in the Muir manual for checking the continuity of all 
the wires in the harness.  The manuals all refer to numbered wires.  The 
numbers are probably all there and legible on the end that connects to the 
brain.  But they may be obscured or gone on the other ends.

Bentley tells how to check these.  For the vacuum advance, you want to 
disconnect the hose at the manifold and suck on it while the engine is 
running.  yuck  And to check the vacuum can, suck on the tube and block it 
off with your tongue to see if it holds.  yuck again
