These temps are too far away from the engine to be useful.

Just stick it down the dipstick tube. There really isn't any really good place 
to do this on the type 3 engine. If you can seal around it, sticking it in place 
of the oil pressure switch would be interesting. If you have the 72-3 heads 
(doubtful) that had the breather tubes, you could stick it down that hole.

Don't stick it down the breather pipe: It's likely to get caught up in the cam 
gear.  8-0

Berg claims that oil temps above 212F indicate trouble. I suspect that 180-
200 should be "normal." 212F is convenient since it is easy to check the 
calibration in boiling water.
