The color of the illumination is determined by a greenish plastic shell that 
covers the end of the bulb. Each instrument has one of these inside its body. 
Occasionally one of these comes loose and has to be reattached. The clock 
one is probably the hardest to get to, but as Greg has pointed out, it can be 
done.  

To the best of my knowledge the color didn't change with the year.
