I was in the process of taking my square rear apart and cleaning and lubing things (pretty grimy) and found out something odd. I noticed on the passenger side output flange there was not a "cap" in the center like on my driver's side. The main question is this really necessary? Looks like with it off my inner CV joint was bathed with tranny fluid instead of grease. Now I cannot determine how long this had been this way but by the amount of "road" buildup, it has been a good amount of time since they were last removed. The CV joint is still as "tight" as the outer, so could this remain this way, or should I try to locate a cover? I figure that explains the grease I found when draining my tranny.
