Hi all, It is now almost 2 weeks since I managed to start my T34's engine. Haven't really had time to do much to it since then apart from some minor electrical stuff. I suppose the engine has run altogether for maybe 15 minutes in the last 10 days. I haven't actually driven the car because it has problems with its auto gearbox and won't go backwards. Anyway, up to now it ran pretty smoothly, but today it began to stall and backfire. I could actually see a little puff of flame coming out of the left carb. It would hardly idle at all without stalling, but still ran if I increased the revs. Frankly, considering that the engine was non-functional for maybe a couple of years before today, I was surprised that it didn't behave like this right from the start. However, given that it has been running quite well up to now, what should I look at? I haven't checked valves, timing or anything else - I was of course going to do that anyway - but I would have thought that if the engine was well enough adjusted to chug along at low revs before, then it should still be now. So what I am really asking is; can anyone suggest why it suddenly misbehaves, when it worked reasonably well before? Sorry to waffle on, but I am really new to this, I took on the project mostly as an educational project, rather than because of the prospect of the car ever becoming transport, but I don't want to screw it up (or maybe blow it up!) right at the beginning because of my lack of experience! regards to all, Daniel Baum '69 T34: Everything missing, nothing works. ------------------------------------------------------------------- Search old messages on the Web!
