OK, with Jim out of town here I go! Bentley, fuel system page 18, theres the main power relay for the FI, its #12 but its hard to follow here so go to the wiring diagram for your whole 72 car, hopefully its color. anywho, the relay is J16. #30 is the main B+ feed and should always be 12V. 85 is ground and should always be 0, Term 87 goes to 3 different wires ALL for the FI, one of which is the fuel pump relay. #86 is the switching wire, in other words, when that terminal is 12V then the FI system is ON and when its 0 the FI is off... NOTE: when the FI is OFF not only cant the fuel pump run because its relay cant get power but the system has no way of turning on the injectors and therefore they cant inject any fuel. SO, most likely 86 is miswired to something that doesnt switch it off when the ignition key is off, it should go to the FEED for the end fuse in the fuse box which is switched 12V for the ignition coil, but perhaps your fusebox is no longer wired correctly. SO look for a terminal where there is only 12V when the ignition key is in the on AND start position... this should be where the 15 terminal (+) on the coil is connected. Connect 86 to this and your problems will cease to exist. Follow?? if not I can have it straightened out in 5 minutes in Woodstock :) Keith ----- Original Message ----- From: Mike Wodkowski <wodkowski@mac.com> To: Type3 <type3@vwtype3.org> Sent: Sunday, September 02, 2001 2:16 AM Subject: [T3] run-on > So, still running on.
