<x-charset iso-8859-1>You may want to read Bergs writings on the cams. He goes through painstaking procedures for breaking in new cams these days and NOTHING will ruin a cam faster than the cheap non-German lifters... probably your entire problem here. You touched on another factor, overcarburation. Alot of cars were converted to Carbs from FI and died early deaths as the carburators were too large and or not jetted properly. Mixture is CRITICAL for longevity in the T3 motors. I ALWAYS do an entire rebuild as you stated, I really dont want to be back in there for at least another 100Kmi and I dont need any worry about things as I drive across country or pull the boat to the lake in the summer.
