FIRST: Are you aware of the safety hazard involved with installing
an electric fuel pump that just goes on when you turn on the key.
In an accident, that pump will just keep running pumping out gas. I
lost a friend in a crash/fire a number of years ago. I'm pretty
sensitive to this. There are safety impact switches which others
can tell you about which will take care of this.

As someone else suggested, it is always better to install the pump
under the gas tank, where it will never suffer from vapor lock. This
may not help your problem, however.

I suggest that you connect a temporary fuel pressure gauge in the
line from the regulator to the carb. Watch what this pressure does
above 55 and then move it to before the regulator. You may find
that the regulator just has too much restriction for your flow.

Was the pressure too high without the regulator?
