RE: [T3] hesitation on acceleration

Ok, I need some help in this area also. I have a 72 Fasty AT, FI (#U504
497). I tried to set the timing this weekend and am not sure if I got it
right. According to 'Muir' for my year it is 0deg TDC, according to one
chart I got from the Type 3 and 4 site it is 5deg BTDC for my engine. I
know, I know, check Bentley. Well I dont have this book yet, its on order
;-) So if anyone could help me clear this up I'd appreciate it. Oh, one
more thing anybody have any tricks to setting the idle with out a Tach?
Again, in 'Muir' it says to turn past the red light comming on, on the dash.
But I can set mine till the engine barely idles and the light never comes
on. And I tied a few setting that run ok, but I'd rather do it right.
Thanks for any help,

According to my copy of the factory workshop manual 12.5 degrees BTDC
should only be used for engines built from August 1 to September 5 1962.
Recommended timing changed several times during 1962 due to ongoing
modifications to the Solex 32 PHN-1 carburetor.
The earliest models upo through July 1962 had two-notch pulleys and the
timing should be set to the right notch (10 BTDC). The third 12.5 degree
notch was added to the pulley in August 62. After Sept. 5 1962 the
timing was changed back to 10 BDTC but the pulley still had the third
12.5 notch so these engines should be timed to the center mark.
The manual also says that if detonation is a problem it's o.k. to move
the timing to 7.5 BTDC.
