Couple of weeks ago I got to look at a very rough, original late '67 Beetle, which had the same seats ... and also had the '68+ style front apron and hood. What was really interesting was that the bumper brackets were still coming through the apron (not through the fenders as a '68 would) and no vent slots in the hood by the windshield.
