(thats it). You may think the gasket is missing, but it is really there. The port is machined with a square cut. The base of the intake has kind of an angle cut. When the manifold is tightened down, the gasket is compressed into the shape of the port on the bottom, and the shape of the manifold on top. If your port looks tapered, the gasket is there. Just take an ice pick or awl and pop it out. It is made of either copper or aluminum depending on manufacturer, with an "OH NO" asbestos core.
