Sounds like you found your problem.  I agree with Perl, I can't get past the
first stop sign in the morning w/o the heel/toe dance.  The car starts first
time (after setting fast idle cam by pressing accel to the floor once), and then
will idle all day.  (I have the fast idle springs just loose enough that the
friction holds them in place at their lowest setting until you tap the
throttle)  But once the chokes have opened up, the car will die when letting off
the gas to come to a stop.  By the second stop sign, it's usually OK.
