Are you sure it is coming from the oil pump? May be coming from the case
halves, or as you mentioned in an earlier post, it is coming from crank
pulley/fan. The outer edge of the oil slinger washer go away from the
crankcase (toward the pulley).
That groove in the pump housing IS important. It is to help direct oil away
from the outer edges of the pump cover.
