>Anyone know how I can analyse the DNS number that comes on the report, for >country maybe? >There's probably software around; I'm just tabulating them on MSWord at the >moment to order and search. ...so you do have the raw logs, right? Web servers can be configured to do reverse DNS lookups on the fly to convert IP addresses to fqdn's for the logs, but this adds overhead time and processing overhead which can slow things down. Looks like you're running Apache/1.3.6 (Unix), which can easily be configured to do the reverse lookups if you want (and if you have access to the config). There are many log analysis programs available, from totally free to shareware to many, many thousands of dollars. I've spent time researching them, and have found that the price you pay for them has little bearing upon the quality or features (or is only very weakly linked). It's been a while since I've looked, but I believe that the tried & true "analog" will do country groupings. Also, "wusage" (runs on oodles of platforms), although not super-slick in its presentation of stats, is quite powerful and very cheap (maybe even free for personal or limited use). I believe it can be set to do reverse lookups. It also makes sense to do the reverse lookups in one big batch, as you can get the advantages of DNS caching. >The funniest find? Ask Jeeves dug up the page called "dating.htm" (how to >work out when your VW was produced). I bet the surfer (maybe some of the 22 >others too) wasn't expecting that sort of dating! He(?) didn't hit the site >again that day. Hee, that's great. I think I can top it, though. ;) Know how Type III folks love red-needled speedometers? Well, the VVType3.Org site has had a number of hits for people searching for "David Duchovny red speedos". (Yeah, *those* speedos!)
