>From your description, I gather that this play became evident after 
you replaced the tie rod ends. In that case I would suspect the 
makeshift installation you were forced to make rather than the 
steering box.

I suspect that if you ask here on this list you will come up with the 
correct tie rod ends and they should go a long way toward making your 
problem go away.
