I have a question, and please refrain from using the word "duh" in your replies :) (67 squareback) When replacing my worn tie rod ends a while back, I was told to use type 1 outer tie rod ends ends, as type 3 ends were no longer available for pre-68 cars. The threaded shafts of the type 1 ends were too large to fit through the spindles. Being crafty (actually just pissed and in a bit of a hurry) I drilled the holes out just enough to be able to pound the type 1 ends in without damaging the threads. - I now have quite a bit of play in my steering wheel. When cornering, the steering wheel turns before the car does. Not fun. I have been adjusting the box tighter, but it doesn't adjust smoothly. In other words The adjusting screw is hard to turn, then loosens up, then gets hard to turn again. It's not smooth until it stops when contacting the brass piece inside. So would you think the steering box is f.u.b.a.r., or the spindles need to be replaced? What tie rod ends have list members been using on early cars? I'm out of steam, so thanks for reading. -Phil __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Get email at your own domain with Yahoo!
