I would get a friend to hold one end of a heavy wire on the + 
terminal of the battery. Take the other end and touch it to the 
terminals on the back of the ignition switch. First touch it to the hot 
terminal while you hold the key at START. If this works, the ign sw 
is ok and the problem is before the switch.

If that doesn't work, just touch the wire to the ign sw terminal that 
leads to the solenoid. If that works, the wiring to the solenoid is 
okay and the ignition switch is bad. 

If neither one works, there is too much resistance either in the wire 
you are using for testing, or in the wire (and connections!) between 
the ign sw and the solenoid.
