I think it has the potential for making this job really messy and nasty: Envision yourself on your back, holding the MC above your head with brake fluid dripping in your face! ;-p While it MAY be useful on some other cars, the fact that the reservoir is ~3' above the MC on type 3s makes the type 1 & 3 MCs pretty much self filling. > It IS OK to set MC plunger travel using only the locknuts on the > shaft-just make sure the pedal returns firmly on the stop bracket > on the floor.(check bushings & bolts on the pedal cluster) Gotta STRONGLY disagree with this. The plunger length is set to allow sufficient pedal travel in the case of a brake circuit failure. This dimension is custom adjusted at the factory to accomodate variations in pan and body dimensions (and variations in fitting the body to the pan.) Dave Hall has the drawing of the fixture used at the factory to set the push rod length; one of these days I may actually make one. Changing this adjustment certainly will adjust the things you have in mind, but it may also make your car unsafe by disabling the backup function of the tandem MC. The problem is that you won't know about this effect until it's too late. Please don't do this. The correct way to adjust the pedal travel is to adjust the pedal stop. It really is important that you do it this way. > I disagree about our Ebrakes-adjusted properly they will hold the car solid > even on the steepest hills(it's not at all hard to do) I agree that the E-brake is a pretty good parking brake. It's just not much of an E-brake. OTOH, this seems to be true of ALL cars. - Jim Adney jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, WI 53711-3054 USA ------------------------------------------------------------------- Unsubscribe? mailto:type3-request@vwtype3.org, Subject: unsubscribe
