Rust is a bad thing. Really, really bad. Consider the cost in dollars and time for the rust repair, especially if you're going to have a shop do it. Then add that to the prices you're talking about for the purchase of the car itself, including the engine rebuild. What are you up to -- $4k? $6k? Then consider what kind of condition Type III you could get for that kind of money -- a really, really nice car that would be ready to go. (If you live someplace rusty, factor in the travel/shipping costs of shopping for a rust-free car compared to the repair.)
