I didn't know that this was dual-diagonal, but that just means that 
no matter which circuit failed, they are down to ~1/2 effectiveness. 

My experience with owners who have gone thru half system failures 
is that they almost always report a total loss of brakes even though 
they may have a major amount left. I think it's just pretty much 
human nature to make this assumption when the pedal goes WAY 
past the usual spot without doing anything.
