Went to look at a 70 Notch this weekend. Not sure if it is worth the $2000 price tag and I'm not too familiar with Type 3s so I need some advice on the seriousness of the rust and where it is located. Car is 1600-L automatic. Came over from Germany about 18 months ago. Two cylinders only have 45 lbs compression. Body panels all solid and undented except front hood (small dent in front) and panel just below front hood--owner rear-ended a truck at about 5mph. Exterior has been repainted once in original color a few years back. Looks very good. Interior is original and mint. Now for the rust--don't know what you call these areas--inside front hood, behind trunk liner on both sides, toward the dash end of the trunk. Prior owner welding in some patches, not sure how good a job. Also, while floors appear solid heater channels are rusted inside front and rear wheel wells. No holes visible along the rocker area though. So--what do you think? I don't want a show car, just a Sunday driver. My concern is I don't want to put an engine in for $1500 (what my shop quoted) if the car is has serious rust problems and will need extensive rust repair on top of the engine $$$. Thanks... ------------------------------------------------------------------- Too much? Digest! mailto:type3-d-request@vwtype3.org Subj=subscribe
