I assume that removing the brake drum is unrelated to pulling the engine.... At any rate, on a 73, there is no reason to remove that big nut. Just remove the wheel, and then remove the 2 little bolts, then the outer part of the drum, leaving the hub behind. Even this can be challenging, but if you heat the flange of the drum just outside where it meets the hub, it will almost always just pop right off.
