Hey:

The only experience I've had with GEX engines was a disappointing one. I
was helping a friend replace the motor in his early-70s Type 2, and we
installed a spankin' new GEX. My buddy carefully broke it in as per the
instructions, but it failed him time after time. Before a year was up,
he was looking for another engine. (The next engine, one rebuilt by a
local VW guru, lasted him tens of thousands of miles, until he sold the
bus.)

That's my two cents on it.
