Have you tried turning the key ON and OFF several times before you let the starter crank the engine? This is sometimes useful in that it fills the fuel lines with gas. To know whether you're getting good fuel pressure all the time, you really have to get someone to watch that pressure gauge while you're out on the road, or at least when the engine is faltering. > Is this a symptom of my vacuum advance not working properly? No. The vac adv on a dual advance dist only comes into play while crusing. It is an efficiency device only. All the FI dists are like this, except for the 72 which has vacuum advance (like this) AND vacuum retard (not like this.) The easy way to test them is to suck on them. If they hold vacuum they are good, if they leak they are bad. > I installed a used one I had laying around and it made no > difference, but I don't think that one is any good either. It should turn ~15 degrees and snap back on its own when you release it. If it doesn't move, moves reluctantly, or binds, the dist needs to be rebuilt and the advance lubricated so that it moves freely. - ******************************* Jim Adney, jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, Wisconsin, USA ******************************* ------------------------------------------------------------------- Search old messages on the Web!
