I gave you something to check and a cure if the check pointed to a bad VR. If you just start replacing parts based on possibility it can get expensive very quickly. You'll build up your understanding and save money at the same time by learning to diagnose and eliminate possibilities. Please don't just go grasping at straws. Did you do the voltage test? If so, what did you learn? > The old regulator was black on one side and had evidence of burning on > the bottom of it I was getting a dim surging red light as I drove > previously. This certainly sounds promising. If it still misses, I'd put in a fresh set of plugs because it could well be that the old ones were fouled by the rich mixture before you changed the VR. Secondly, it's awfully easy to fall into the trap of blaming the FI for faults just because you are having a hard time finding the cause. Certainly the FI is a possibility, but so is the ignition, and most miss problems like this turn out to be ignition problems. > questions: > 1) when I set the idle I encountered a mystery...the idle adjustment > screw range doesn't seem to raise the idle above 800rpm...which seems > awfully low for a VW to idle at...I'm used to running my MT bus at > about 1000 just because I like it to be peppy, usually tweaking the > 009 a bit to achieve this...the book says to set the idle for an > Automatic between 900 & 1000 yet I can't seem to get it that > high...Timing strictly at 0 degrees. It looks like it's been on there since WWII. Is this something > that goes bad? Is it an available part? They aren't really necessary, and the only way that they fail that I'm aware of is that they rust thru and leak. You can replace them with a straight length of hose. I've cut them open to find out what's in there and there's nothing: just an empty volume. I can't imagine what they are expected to do, as the roller pump really doesn't give out "surges." None of the other D-Jetronic cars that I am familiar with used these. - ******************************* Jim Adney, jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, Wisconsin, USA ******************************* ------------------------------------------------------------------- Unsubscribe? mailto:type3-request@vwtype3.org, Subject: unsubscribe
