<x-charset iso-8859-1>I changed the fuel filter, reset the points, rechecked the timing and the idle and still had the miss...read Jim's post about changing the voltage regulator to a new one and went out and did it. The old regulator was black on one side and had evidence of burning on the bottom of it I was getting a dim surging red light as I drove previously. Switched the regulator for new bosch and the dim light went completely out. drove it around the block a few times with wipers and lights and it sounded good. let it idle for awhile and it idled smoothly with the exception of an occasional miss. Don't know what this means in terms of a longer ride, but will check it out tonight on a drive to Oakland to see a show. if I come back behind a tow truck I'll know its the FI. questions: 1) when I set the idle I encountered a mystery...the idle adjustment screw range doesn't seem to raise the idle above 800rpm...which seems awfully low for a VW to idle at...I'm used to running my MT bus at about 1000 just because I like it to be peppy, usually tweaking the 009 a bit to achieve this...the book says to set the idle for an Automatic between 900 & 1000 yet I can't seem to get it that high...Timing strictly at 0 degrees. Is this something thats happened to other people, or is my Tach defective? 2) I noticed what Muir calls a Fuel Dampner in-line between my fuel pump and the motor, Muir says it irons out the surges in the fuel pump. It looks like it's been on there since WWII. Is this something that goes bad? Is it an available part? Thanks for all the help, especially the tip on the Voltage Regulator...hopefully that made the car driveable... -Chris ------------------------------------------------------------------- Too much?
