You don't have to take out the tank to inspect it. Just unbolt the gas gauge sensor and look down there with a flashlight. There is a brass screen filter sock sticking up from tank outlet. It may be worthwhile taking that out from the bottom and cleaning it, but if there is a lot of dirt in the tank then it will just clog up again. Remove this filter before you clean the tank, or it will likely be destroyed.
