You don't have to take out the tank to inspect it. Just unbolt the 
gas gauge sensor and look down there with a flashlight.

There is a brass screen filter sock sticking up from tank outlet. It 
may be worthwhile taking that out from the bottom and cleaning it, 
but if there is a lot of dirt in the tank then it will just clog up again. 
Remove this filter before you clean the tank, or it will likely be 
destroyed.

The problem could also be other things: bad capacitor/coil, tight 
valves, lean mixture, wrong fuel pressure, worn voltage regulator....
