>>I've got a ''72 Squareback with a recent rebuild and new dual Weber 34s.It >>starts and runs great, but after I'm on the freeway for 15 miles or so, it >>really starts running rough. Acts likes it's not getting enough gas. It >>sputters and occasionally backfires. The car has new fuel lines and a new >>mechanical fuel pump. The lines seem to be clear as far as I can tell.<< I'm having much the same problem...I just converted my FI to carb not long ago (darkside be damned!), and am running the same setup in my '71 Square...albeit w/ an electric fuel pump. It starts and idles like a jem, and initally runs smooth. Whereas upon warming up, the engine starts dragging, surging...and when slowing while in gear, lets out a series of what sounds to be small muffled backfires. I've attempted all manner of idle mixture/timing ajustments, checked the sparkplug connections, the bellows are fine, the coil is new, and repeatedly synced the carbs...yet it continues. I, myself, am just about ready to take it to a shop....unless you kind gents have any insight. Many thanks in advance.
