Is this a swing axle tranmission? Should be for a '66. If it is from the
engine to the axle shafts, it may have come from a bad main seal/main
bearing in the engine. There is not much to leak from the trans in that area
except the engine, and maybe the mainshaft on the trans. Or it is possibly
just and axle boot leaking on the trans. In that area, those are external
repairs while the engine is out. And repairs that should be made anyway
while the engine is out.
