The metro buses here in Portland have installed red brake LEDs and amber turn signal LEDs -- makes seeing the buses much easier! Okay, my memory is kinda sketchy but in either "Car & Driver" or "European Car" I read that the trend for LEDs is growing (I think in Volvo) because an incandescent bulb takes 200-ms (milliseconds) to illuminate while an LED takes 20-ms. This equates into 17-ft of more reaction distance at highway speeds.
